Glorified Kuroneko appreciation post.
__SPOILERS BEWARE!__

Initially I thought I wouldn't write a short review for the ONA and figured I would just leave my write up but its four lengthy episodes which have just enough to probably squeeze in a short review so that's what I ended up doing. This very well may come across as a Kuroneko appreciation post since this ONA delivers exactly what I wanted to see from Oreimo. Compared to the anime I thoroughly enjoyed the ONA far more since surprise surprise it has very little Kirino and focuses more heavily on the other cast specifically best girl Kuroneko or as we found out her real name "Ruri Gotou". This is the good and enjoyable Oreimo as the aforementioned sister is missing. There's no violence here, no abuse and I can't state enough how much of a difference it made not having the obnoxious brat around for even a few episodes.

The first episode of the ONA is very similar to the last except the conclusion is different as Kirino leaves for America compared to the last episode of the anime which is actually anime original as it aired to wrap up the first season. The problem with the anime original episode is the fact Oreimo ended up continuing so this ONA follows the events of the penultimate episode in the anime, pretty much rendering the final episode of the anime redundant and filler.

I felt like commenting on this duo of unnamed characters which are clearly a duplicate of each other with a slightly different color shade of hair. I'm wondering what was the reasoning of having two of these, is it lazy design or simply a funny moment since if its a latter it worked as it got a chuckle out of me since whenever these two got screentime, they would always be doing the same movement in sync whether that was eating, their facial expression or simply existing. Good job on that since it certainly made me smile.

This ONA introduces us to Sena who was previously introduced as Akagi's sister who's into yaoi in the final episode of the anime. Stating she's wild would be an understatement, on one hand she's a super fascinating individual who's quite smart at coding and programming but on the other hand she's very naïve and can be tricked into revealing her fantasies if a topic she loves is brought up. Needless to say she's chaotic and fun to be around.

Now the Ruri appreciation post will begin as her determination and passion to complete tasks is remarkable. Fuelled unconsciously by Kirino as she hated the way she got everything going her way firstly with her light novel, then the anime adaption and more.

We really have best girl expressing her honest feelings which I enjoyed thoroughly in this ONA.

And the sudden kiss is the cherry on the cake. It was happy days for me as the harem expanded towards my fav ship which very likely won't sail as you have to remember the title of the series in the first instance. Therefore, I'm enjoying these small victories while they last.

Overall, personally I feel the ONA is far better than the anime but this is biased take since I got so much Ruri here and I loved every minute of it so naturally I would enjoy it more. With Kirino returning from America by the end of the final episode, one can only wonder how the sequel will turn out. Will it be back to more of the same from the anime but with a hint of illicit romance between the siblings? Or maybe the harem will grow and more girls will start falling for Kyou with Kirino being at the end of the line in which case he ends up reciprocating her feelings. ~~That totally wouldn't be a twist lol~~. Either way I am curious to see what chaos lies in the sequel now.
