Mob Psycho Season 2's bonus OVA episode, my thoughts
Since I'm talking about one OVA, which is the length of one episode, I will be talking about the plot of the episode. Which means __spoilers__ A isekai version of Mob Psycho? It’s a very weird idea that wouldn’t make any sense, and it wasn’t really done in this OVA, instead it takes the comedy approach of chucking the con artist Reigen Arataka in what is described as a parallel world and banking off that. This OVA is one of Reigen’s classic jobs, he is asked to help this innkeeper from getting bad reviews, since there is a description of a “parallel world” that people who stay there go to. This just turns out to be what happens when you fall asleep there. While Reigen and Serizawa are fast asleep, Mob, Hanazawa and Ritsu have no idea. I think this was entertaining, since we got to see Reigen fall into a state of decline. While you can feel bad for him, the fact that Serizawa was walking in and out from the inn to the parallel world on the train, it made Reigen’s struggle seem pretty pointless, and his reactions to the random stuff that Serizawa brought to the train made it pretty funny in that way. This OVA is actually our first time seeing Serizawa working with the usual crew too, he was a pretty predictable character, but he seems nice and likeable and his nervous attitude makes him a bit nonchalant around Reigen in terms of his outgoing personality, which leaves poor Reigen stranded on the train, since Serizawa just thought he had it all under control. Dimple’s comments were as mocking as always too, especially Reigen’s way, the way he mocks Reigen after he tries any sorta bluff kills Reigen’s moment as a phony esper, but everyone already knows that anyway right? In the end, the solution to the parallel world is so simple it made Reigen’s struggle feel pointless. Poor guy left with baggy eyes and didn’t get to enjoy the inn. Overall, this OVA banks off Reigen, so if you liked him in the previous seasons, then this OVA will be enjoyable. It also seems somewhat important to the series as a whole, since Serizawa makes his first appearance as part of the team and Reigen gives both Serizawa and Mob business cards at the end, which might come up again later? But who knows. I thought it was a pretty decent OVA though.
