DESCRIPTION
It is common knowledge that nobles will do anything for power; lying, manipulation, and extortion are the usual tactics. However, one family is exempt from this generalization: House Grail, whose main tenets are truth and integrity. The youngest daughter, Constance Grail, is just as moral as the rest of her family, believing in always doing the right thing and helping those in need.
However, these ideals do not help her when her fiancé cheats on her with another woman. Framed by his lover in the hope of her downfall, Constance has no one to hear her pleas for justice. Everyone turns a blind eye, save for one—the spirit of the infamous Scarlett Castiel—who possesses Constance and turns the tables on her accuser. However, this aid does not come without a price.
Ten years ago, Scarlett was executed for the attempted murder of Princess Cecilia. But this was actually a setup; as blunt and harsh as Scarlett could be, she would never stoop so low as to use poison. She has no idea who orchestrated her incrimination, but Scarlett demands that Constance—as the only one who can see her—help her exact revenge on all those who wronged her!

VISUALS and CHARACTERS
As an anime set in a Victorian style setting, this anime does a fairly successful job portraying it. This can be seen from the building architecture, character costume designs, hierarchy of power, and royal family etiquette. What surprised me a bit is that the anime also adapts familiar nickname styles, such as Constance becoming Connie or Cecilia becoming Ceci. The world building and royal conflicts are neatly structured. The animation and character movements are nothing special, but not bad either. The portrayal and animation of Scarlet as a spirit her appearance and disappearance are quite good.STORY and DEVELOPMENT
The story begins when Scarlet (The Spirit), who was sentenced to public execution, becomes a wandering spirit ten years after her death, seeking revenge. She does this by possessing our main character, Constance (The Blonde), after they make a deal to help clear Constance (The Blonde) from false accusations during a party.Constance (The Blonde) is initially portrayed as an innocent and timid girl who cannot even defend herself when falsely accused. However, Scarlet’s (The Spirit) presence gradually makes her more clever and confident in facing challenges without losing her gentle personality. Likewise, Scarlet (The Spirit) slowly changes as she spends more time with Constance (The Blonde) she is no longer arrogant and begins to think about others besides herself.
At first, I somewhat underestimated this anime because of its fantasy mystery genre. I thought mystery anime would be more interesting if everything could be explained logically with limited possibilities. If fantasy elements are involved, the probabilities for solving a case become limitless and less exciting. However, this anime does a good job balancing that aspect. The mystery behind Scarlet’s (The Spirit) execution and what is actually being hidden is handled very well.
Initially, I thought it would just be a cheap mystery where Scarlet (The Spirit) and Constance (The Blonde) would only follow clues left by Lily (Scarlet’s Best Friend) to uncover everything. But the plot twist instantly made this a strong mystery anime. It reveals a conflict much bigger than just Scarlet’s (The Spirit) false execution and includes effective callbacks to what happened to Constance (The Blonde) but with the happy ending is very satisfying. What I found lacking is that there is almost no limitation to Scarlet’s (The Spirit) powers. Even though it’s explained in the anime, she still feels too overpowered, as she can always protect Constance (The Blonde), creating a somewhat annoying plot armor. Also, I think the ending would have been more beautiful and poetic if everything had concluded when Constance (The blonde) visited Scarlet’s (The Spirit) grave. The ending feels made solely to please the audience and comes across as very cliché.
FAVORITE CHARACTER
Both Constance (The Blonde) and Scarlet (The Spirit) have their own strengths, but I think I would choose Constance (The Bolnde) because her character development and romantic storyline are portrayed very well.

I thought I would like this show, but not this much?!Continue on AniListLet me start off by saying this: I love anime/manga involving princess intrigue, including all things villainess-related. Like any red-blooded American, I too want to be thrust into a life of pretty dresses, cute boys, and political disasters that I need to figure out how to solve by being a good person. My inspiration to watch this show was absolutely in that vain, and that along with the amusing premise is what carried me through the first couple of episodes. Eventually, I reached a point where I went from "this is a fun premise," to "I'm probably watching half of this before I go to bed tonight.
I then proceeded to watch the entire thing.
I LOOOOVED THIS SHOW OMGGGG
As I said, I was hooked by the premise, thinking that watching our wholesome little Connie surrendering control to the DIVA Scarlet would be pretty funny...
...and it was.
But there is absolutely more to this show than just that! Throughout the entire story, there is always something happening that is interesting and important! There are no dull moments, as virtually everything that happens does so with purpose, with the everything coming together over the course of the season as we learn intricate details of characters' backstories and why all of these crazy things are happening.
CHARACTERS
On top of the main characters being charming and interesting, the other characters are mostly great! I'm going to discuss some of my favorites.
KATE!!!!!
Kate is a great "best friend" character! It is refreshing to see a well-written character like this, where she's a kind, overall awesome person, has conflict with the main character, and still doesn't feel like a Mary Sue or as though her conflict is some forced issue to create issues for our MC to solve for the sake of the plot! Personality-wise, above all else, she is strong-willed and a good friend through and through! Her main conflict with our MC is how Connie disappears and won't tell her anything despite them being best friends. I would be upset too! And, despite it all, she doesn't throw a fit like I was kind of dreading she might! Kate would be a lovely friend to have in real life, and there might be no more problems in the world if everyone was just like her.

Crown Princess Cecilia is NOT a good person, and I would NEVER want to deal with her in real life. As a character, however, I love her. I could kind of tell that she was going to be evil from the millisecond she first appeared on my screen, but that didn't take away from my investment in her story. In my opinion, it is one of the most interesting things about this whole show. A diva has unfortunately been swiss cheesed by the opps in a sewer, but that's okay because she died how she lived: serving.
YAAAAYYYY!!!! CONNIE!!!
She is never going to not be a lovable goofball, because that's just who she is, but she has GOT IT GOING ON by the end of this show! Constance stands by being a good person through and through, even when that means telling a princess who's very clearly trying to drink poison that she's drinking that poison, even though she definitely doesn't want you to know about it. She never loses her good nature, no matter how much messed-up stuff is happening, and while she may still be naive at times, watching her go from innocent and sheltered to ready to be decapitated for a just cause, all coming from about the same place deep-down, made for a great character arc.

ACTUAL CONCLUSION
This is my favorite anime of 2026 so far, and legitimately one of my favorites overall. If I had to pick something I didn't like, it would definitely be the romance, which I could have easily lived without. However, it wasn't a huge focus of the story, and every princess politics story needs a hunky love interest (or replacement tsundere yuri if not), as stated in the Constitution. Overall, though, I loved it, and the biggest complaint I have is that the story is over so we won't get more.

This was SO GOOD! Every episode was gripping! When I started this I thought this was gonna be a normal ass villainess anime. It was far from it. Boy, was I wrong. This was a highly continuous, dense, royal affairs, mystery/conspiracy story with a tinge of fantasy, just the way I like it. And it was amazing! I loved it so much. So glad I picked this up.
The top reccs def make no sense on this anime's page, like did people even watch this show? Nonsense reccs. If anything this show is like the below anime in terms of vibes:

The only shortcomings I can think of are perhaps that they tried to fit the WHOLE story end-to-end in this one cour. This makes the pacing fast during the middle of the cour, but the advantage is that you get the full story with a proper ending! And its fast, but I don't think its rushed. If you're anime-only, I think they did a good job editing the story to fit in one cour. LN readers might complain about missing details and flavor text and might be justified, but I'm still highly satisfied as an anime-only watcher. You just need to watch this show with 100% of your attention, one can't just watch this passively in the background.
The mystery is dense, fairly intricate and theres a lot of pieces to the story. Theres also quite a good number of characters, and even if some of them play smaller roles overall, the little things they say can become a major plot point later on. To be concise, this show is not recommended for tiktok/instagram addicted kids with short-circuited dopamine receptors. Probably explains its current low score tbh.
Another potential shortcoming imo is that the budget might be a slight bit lacking compared to the other similar anime mentioned above. Still its not so low as to hinder the immersion of this show. The immersion is solid because the story is really good; the lack of fancy budget doesn't affect me in the slightest. Its a perfectly fine level of animation, maybe except one action scene in one episode where it was struggling a bit.
Finally, the OP is really good! I love the final lil tune thing they do at the end of the OP on the title screen, couldn't get enough of that lol. The music/sound design within the episodes in general is fairly good too, nothing crazy but good, and the ED fits nicely too.
Just go read the other reviews for this anime, and you'll know I'm not the only one surprised!
8.5/10 for me! Super satisfied!
