While this Anime was airing, I saw a lot of people on the internet talking about it, saying that it was very unique and interesting. While I don't usually pick something up just because others tend to like it, Mistress Kanan was an exception. I read a little bit about the plot, and it actually grabbed my attention quite a bit. It seemed very unique, and it looked like something I could totally vibe with. I looked at the character designs, and I personally think that all of the characters are very well drawn. Whether it be the outfits, the hairstyles and their vibrant colors, or the whole devilish theme, all of it definitely stood out to me. The first impressions I was given were all pretty positive, and I figured I'd like it a good amount. A solid concept with great character design seemed super promising to me, but the execution really took a toll on that first impression I had.
The story revolves around Kanan Zebul, a devil who infiltrates a high school looking to consume several human souls. A high school student by the name of Youji Kyougi has a very unique soul that stands out to her, and when she manages to interact with him, they end up forming some kind of complex relationship. Was it a romantic relationship exactly? I'm not too sure. The chemistry was rather complex, and I'm not quite sure how to feel about it.
The concept of the story itself is very unique. The idea of a devil girl and a human male forming a romantic relationship is definitely a concept that I really haven't ever heard all that much about, and it really intrigued me when I first heard about it. I'm usually a sucker for romantic Anime done right, so I figured a romance Anime with a twist like this would be something I would absolutely love. On top of this, the character design is very solid. I do really like just how unique each member of Kanan's family looks, I do find them all very attention grabbing. What I found particularly neat is how every member of her family looks very devilish, while simultaneously looking very human and able to blend in with the rest of the human world without anyone catching on to their true identities. It almost makes me think that their designs were thoroughly put together to work like this, and it's probably the part of the Anime I appreciate the most.
The first impressions are great, my problems are the execution and the pace. I found that Kanan and Youji dived into the whole relationship scheme very fast, and it didn't really give me any time to settle into the setting or to really get to know any character all that well. They become "official" (it's very complex throughout most of the Anime, so I'm not too sure how official it really is) on the very first episode, and almost immediately they are put into somewhat awkward situations that didn't even make sense half the time. I felt like everything in the first half of the Anime felt very rushed, and I feel like a slower pace with more tension would've done wonders for the writing. Another issue I had was the lack of character development. I found that a lot of characters really lacked personality, and turned out to be rather surface level and uninteresting, to the point where I couldn't really pick a character I really like because none of them really made me feel anything. I found that Youji especially lacked much of a personality, and when the main character is faced with this issue in the writing, it does quite a bit of damage to the series as a whole. While a lot of the characters at least develop a little more in the second half, I found myself not that interested in anyone, especially in the first half. Youji came off as a bland horny teenager for the majority of the series to me, and I only really came to somewhat appreciate his character near the end. I think the only character I'd say I liked throughout was Ami, because she delivered some really funny moments here and there, and I did appreciate her persona. She's an easy favorite, because shes the only one that I feel is written well. As for nearly everyone else, I either found their personality very uninteresting, or I found the way they behaved and the situations they put themselves into to make little to no sense at all, almost as if random scenarios were just thrown in there for the sake of it.
Overall, while I found myself rather disappointed in the execution of the plot, it still had its moments. I can also appreciate a good concept with character designs that are nice to look at. I expected this to be a romance Anime that would stand out to me because of the first impressions I got, but the writing as a whole, whether its pacing or character development, seriously falls flat for me. There were some pretty funny moments here and there, but I found myself struggling to find anything to really keep me interested. I don't think this Anime is actively bad as a whole, but I just don't think it hits the spot for me.

85/100With its fascinating cast of Halloween-y bisexuals and confident erotic moments, this might be my anime of the season.Continue on AniListContent Warning: Blood, Cheating, Corruption, Cucking, Degradation, Dubcon, Earfucking, Groping, Humiliation, Incest, Momcon, Nudity, Petplay, Piss, Scentplay, Shota, Siscon, Spanking, Violence, Voyeurism
__- - - Intro - - -__ I usually avoid heterosexual romcoms on principle alone. I understand why the genre relies so heavily on copy-and-paste pale guys with short black or brown hair as a romantic lead, but it makes self-inserting as a lesbian a miserable task. Plus there's usually an infuriating chastity to the entire affair. Sure, you might get a swimsuit episode, or the occasional panty shot, but there's a sexless precision to it. A parade of accidents and extenuating circumstances that ensure the main characters never show an actual erotic side. Beyond masculine horniness played for humor, of course.
So to say I started watching Mistress Kanan is Devilishly Easy with zero expectations would be an understatement. I went in expecting to hate the show. I went in expecting a magical harem set-up where the world's most mediocre boy somehow wooed devil after witch after demon through the power of basic unobtrusive kindness. Twelve episodes of time killing where I could at least look at some absurdly large breasts while I waited (I told you I was a lesbian, didn't I? I'm not immune.)
Instead, what I found was... Good! The show was so much more textually erotic than I was expecting - openly and proudly too. The cast, despite being a harem, all felt like actual characters worth getting interested in. And while the anime absolutely fetishizes everything it gets its hands on, there's moments of humanity sprinkled into even its most perverse moments that keep the kinks feeling real and grounded.
Mistress Kanan is Devilishly Easy might be my favorite show of the Spring 2026 season, and I'm amazed I can say that.
__- - - Diabolik Lovers - - -__ Kanan is a really fun romantic lead. "Chaste succubus" isn't breaking any new ground, but it's a fun archetype. Especially so when both sides of her feel well written. She's pathetic and needy and soft, but in a realistic way. She places an importance on small gestures of kindness in a way that reminds me of my own real life relationships, which means I naturally want to root for her. And when she's trying (and failing) to be dominant and wrest control of a situation, the bratty facade has just enough cracks in it to be believable. Kanan isn't a character flip-flopping between two different forms of sexualization, she's a whole character with a complex bundle of sexual hang-ups and kinks.
Kyougi is... Less great. I understand critiquing a self-insert proxy is a fool's errand, but I do think his strengths and flaws are worth noting. As a romantic partner, he's actually pretty solid. He manages to have some actual chemistry with Kanan, and her love for him isn't unearned. As silly as it might sound, he's a soulful pervert. Someone who's deeply in love with and turned on by his partner, but who's almost always respectful of her boundaries and happy with taking things at her pace. A "wife guy" in the making. And it was fun having a stable, earnest couple at the center of a whirlwind of sexual dysfunction. Kyougi only really fumbles when he's required to lean into a bit too hard. There are times when his attraction to other women feels a little strange and some gags that don't really land. He can be completely disinterested in a character in one episode, and ogling them for a gag two episodes later. Though that's not a rare issue with comedy anime.
While I might desperately wish Kyougi was a woman, he and Kanan are always a fun couple to watch. Both of them are passionate about one another, yet fun springboards for the other cast members to tease/harass/chase. Mistress Kanan is Devilishly Easy never truly commits to any sort of love triangle. There's no "Will they, won't they" going on. This then gives the anime a solid bedrock to build on. Precious time that would otherwise be wasted setting up alternate love interests can be devoted to strengthening the relationship that already exists, or building up your supporting cast in funny ways.
All-in-all, Kanan and Kyougi have a magnetism that not only fuels the entire show, but keeps everything in a steady orbit around them. Plus, with no other serious love interests, that means the side characters can really lean into being freaks.
__- - - "Three-Layer Cuckception" - - -__ The biggest surprise to me was that Mistress Kanan is Devilishly Easy leaned into kink, and it leaned hard. While Kyougi is fairly vanilla, and Kanan is usually only subject to mild humiliation or embarrassment, every single other character is a huge freak (affectionate) which adds so much to the vibes of the show.
Kanan's personal maid isn't just an outgoing bisexual gyaru, she's also voyeuristic and deeply involved in trying to get the two leads to fuck. Once it's clear that Kyuogi isn't going to be wooed by her, she accepts that and switches her focus to the two of them. Kyougi's childhood friend gets insulted by Kanan, realizes it turned her on, and spends the rest of the show indulging in her newfound lesbian degradation kink.
The entire show is like this.
There's also plenty of one-off kink scenarios that work well as comedic scenes even beyond their indulgent focus. A scene where Kyougi and Kanan engage in some sweat/scentplay kink will be backed up by some incredible freakouts and romantic tension. A train ride bathroom denial scene will constantly keep things moving with new gags. And there is an astounding volume of overt cucking material in the second half of the show, all of which plays out in fun and engaging ways. The anime feels like a realization of the kind of erotic comedy writing you'd see in something like A Masochistic Girl and a Disappointing Dominatrix, just without the misfires and breakneck pacing.
Also, while it's major spoilers for the second half of the show, I want to highlight how well the anime handles one of its kinks.
Incest. Again I realize I might be speaking from limited experience here. But I find that when anime or manga deal with the subject, it's usually in one of two ways. Either it's total fetishization (focusing solely on the erotic or kink elements present in that set-up, while ignoring the real implications and psychological issues present in that arrangement) or it's total de-fetishization (more personal characters played entirely for the horror or tragedy, with eroticism present only in the simple existence of incest).
Mistress Kanan is Devilishly Easy is one of the only anime I've seen that tries to tackle both sides of that spectrum. Everyone in Kanan's family has erotic fantasies involving her. Her mom dreams about stealing her boyfriend. Both of her sisters want to fuck her, where one is desperate for her attention and the other fantasizes about being cucked and denied that forbidden love. Even her dad, absent from the show as he is, is portrayed as a girl dad who sees himself as being Kanan's first love. But, and it's difficult to explain, there's a sense of gravity to these dynamics. Both of her sisters have emotional weight behind their fixations that makes them feel real. Her mom is given some actual sexual trauma, and though the anime does kind of brush past it, her fantasies feel earnest.
I won't say much more on the subject, but these characters resonated with me in ways I didn't expect. I know women like them in real life, women who don't really get to see themselves or their kinks and traumas in sexual works beyond the aforementioned extremes. And perhaps I'm looking into it a little too hard, maybe this is another Kakegurui situation where I take an erotic work and weave it into the most progressive, personally relevant good faith take imaginable. But I don't know, I was pleasantly surprised. The anime hit me in some ways I wasn't expecting.
What defines Mistress Kanan is Devilishly Easy to me is how it depicts a sexual world free from guilt. Almost every character in the show is an honest to god sex pest with complicated sexual hang ups, some form of bisexuality/pansexuality/homosexuality, and niche sometimes embarrassing kinks. But that doesn't deny them love. They're not doomed to be pitiable and isolated because of their kinks. Everyone, whether they're into piss or cucking or age play or petplay or whatever else, can find acceptance and joy. And that's a surprisingly comforting thought.
__- - - A Pebble In Your Sandals - - -__ I do have a small handful of issues with the anime, though they're the exception. Not the norm.
For how willing the show usually is to embrace kink, the childhood friend reads as an odd exception. She doesn't get much screen time, but the few bits she plays a part in are a step crueler than everything else in the show. Kanan and Kyougi usually eye her with suspicion, and I'm not sure whether that's genuine or a part of the degradation bit.
The anime also doesn't handle fatness all that well. Jeanne has a strange thing going on with her weight ("strange" as in "I'm still not sure what's going on there, it didn't make much sense") and while the subject isn't brought up much, at least in the anime it's solely shown in a negative light.
And beyond that, the rest are minor personal preferences. Which, considering some of the other anime I've watched this Spring 2026 season, is an impressively high batting average.
__- - - Final Thoughts - - -__ I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Mistress Kanan is Devilishly Easy from front to back. While I can't say for sure that it's punching above the rest of the competition, it consistently surprised me with how well it blended adult kink and childish love into a consistently funny package. Making Kanan the object of everyone's affections - instead of Kyougi - makes even the dullest romantic moment far more enjoyable. The erotic moments feel personal, and the indulgent writing gives them the oomph they need to work properly.
I'd say Mistress Kanan is Devilishly Easy is absolutely worth checking out, especially if you're a lesbian who's looking at that content warning and salivating a little bit. I feel like I'll be thinking about some of these characters for a good long while.
