61/100Now with wind physics!Continue on AniListMy Review of "The Beginning After the End Season 2"! format(webp))
Oh hey, the slideshow moves just a little bit better now. Also, WHY WAS THE FINAL EPISODE ACTUALLY GOOD???
____Since this is a sequel, I will skip the usual story section and dive straight into The Good, The Bad, and The Downright Ugly.____ ____The Good____ The Good? Hmm… well, they added wind physics into the anime to try to make things more lively which kind of means something… Oh! And the first episode or two actually showed signs of life and hope! Like, it felt like a decent anime show and I was looking forward to the following episodes… and then that’s where all the good stuff ends… or does it? Because my goodness, I completely lost hope in this anime until that final episode where for some reason Studio A-CAT decided to actually give good animation? And I’m not talking about just episode 1 and 2 levels of decent animation. It actually had like the animation you would’ve expected from this show (before watching everything). I think the story also improved from the first season, but maybe that’s just the final episode speaking to me. It actually wasn’t as bad as the first season, but that doesn’t mean that it’s a good season.

____The Bad____ It’s a shame to say this, but I honestly feel like the story has gone down in quality and interest for me. Maybe the animation plays a factor in this, but a lot of the stuff in Beginning After the End feels like them ripping off Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation’s homework and doing it in such an awful way that it just ends up backfiring on themselves. This issue I’m about to mention isn’t as bad as the others that I have and will mention, but I honestly think the OP and ED have downgraded from the first season in terms of the song. The OP’s visuals for this season are definitely better than last season’s ones, but I still prefer the first season’s music over these ones, which honestly don’t resonate with me as much nor fit the vibe of the story. I think this anime (both season 1 and 2) killed any sort of interest and hype I initially had before watching this show, which means that something must be wrong, and it’s obvious what that thing is.

____The Downright Ugly____ Yeah… the animation still sucks for the most part. After the first episode and two and before the final episode, it just devolves into pictures and effects. They halved the first season and gave the second half (this) an extra year and it’s like they barely cared to do anything with that extra year. It’s like they thought giving the community time to cool down from the heat they gave from the first season would be enough for them to enjoy the second season when that’s an absolute lie. If there’s anything to learn from this series, it’s to never watch an anime animated by A-CAT. Otherwise, expect disappointing and underwhelming “animations” (if you can even call it that) with mediocre special effects.

____Is It Worth The Watch?____ Nope. It’s still not worth the watch. This show remains as a disappointment that could’ve been so much better if they just had better animation. If you’re really that interested in seeing how the rest of the story goes, just read the source. You’d probably get a better visual and description of the story than what A-CAT does. If this ever gets greenlit for a season 3, I can only hope that a different studio takes responsibility over its animation… or they decide to animate it just like the final episode.
Thank you for taking the time to read my review. I hope this helped you with your decision on whether to watch this anime or not! If you already have watched it, I hope that you can agree with me with some of the points I made. If you enjoyed this review, I would greatly appreciate a follow too! ^^

👑TBATE SEASON 2⚔️
As a WN/Manga reader watching in DUBBED(English)
Yes, I devoured it all in a single binge session although it did leave quite a discomforting aftertaste. __Animation__ Compared to Season 1, the production was leaps and bounds better. They hearkened, to my dismay, to the crying, making very obvious efforts to appeal to 'modern' audiences. If you hear complaints about animation, they didn't watch it or they are the clear example of why you should never please those who have forgone reason or context and have made an identity out of being enraged. --- __Sound__ About the same as last season; purely atmospheric. It amps up several scenes but never takes over them. OP/ED mostly unremarkable, I'd skipped through most of them hurriedly because I couldn't bear to break the immersion. --- __Dialogue and Characters__
As always, the conversation is alive and roaring; quirky whilst mature and down to earth. Characters in this series are truly omnidirectional as they are written with a rugged sense of realism. Momentary absence truly elicited a lingering for more of them. A few characters were sometimes developed a little more than the manhwa here.
The pacing however, doesn't synchronize with these efforts. Tragically, there's cuts in crucial places leaving us a little disorientated with respect to chronology. There was a lot of improvisation which stood out in shifts of tone alongside a general feeling of disjointedness. They especially tried to throw in Tessia, who was simply not present mostly for these events, but in a way that doesn't affect the plot but distracts from it.

__Plot and Story__
Events in the first half had somewhat decent adaptation. The second half, on the other hand, was a complete trainwreck. The pacing is electric, so much so, it ruins the brilliance of the source material. It opts to throw in events out of left field, as well as ending the season on a pitiful attempt at fanservice; skipping past so much of the development.
Arthur 's portrayal this time around, honestly, it just needed more time to cook. Whilst the story developments make sense it's just too abrupt and jagged. Tessia's inclusion throws a dark shade on the consistency of the show, it doesn't do anything for the events at hand, and steals well needed oxygen which blunted the potential.
Arthurs ENG VA was fine but Sylvie's.... <video muted loop autoplay controls>Your browser does not support the video tag. Most of the ENG VAs are decent though so don't be afraid.. All in all, I had a blast but I'm tremendously disappointed that they listened to the moronic fans. So much effort this season was spent on pleasing the cries of the fools instead of staying the course, improving the pacing and bringing the core narrative of __Turtleme's__ work to life. Improvisations weren't welcome. From what I observed, when they mostly translated the show accurately from the manhwa it was as good as I'd hoped. I certainly will be riding this ship for season three but maybe they need some time to rethink their strategy, more pacing issues and I'll start to just recommend reading the source over this. I would prefer the pacing with faithful chronology over animation every day of the week. "Then you should just read it", you're right, I already am. Compared to the type of series this show was sitting alongside as a Manhwa entry; the likes of Solo Leveling with a monstrous production behind it. We know it can't win in the production side, I'd hoped they would at least try to be as faithful as possible. The author will be supervising these changes, I just hope they listen to him a bit more. If you want a jump off point to start reading the Manhwa you can start from Chapter __85-86__ --- A shame this time around, but we look on for a stronger Season Three~~~ ---

65/100A disappointing adaptation of a story that deserves so much betterContinue on AniListAs someone who is reading the manhwa, I went into the second season hoping that many of the issues from the first season would finally be addressed. Unfortunately, while there are some technical improvements, the adaptation still fails to capture what makes the original story so enjoyable.
The biggest disappointment continues to be the visuals and animation. At first glance, the series actually has some impressive technical elements. The lighting, gradients, particle effects, and overall digital compositing are fairly polished. However, all of that visual quality is overshadowed by how lifeless the animation feels. Rather than flowing naturally, many scenes resemble a PowerPoint presentation where beautifully drawn images are simply moved around the screen. The series seems determined to imitate the appearance of the manhwa panel by panel, but instead of translating those illustrations into fluid animation, it often ends up feeling static and awkward. Ironically, the more it tries to resemble the source material visually, the more it highlights everything that made the manhwa superior.
The story itself is still interesting, but that's largely because the original source material is interesting. If I continue watching this adaptation, it's almost entirely because I already know what's coming next and I genuinely like the narrative that TurtleMe created. The anime deserves some credit for following the main story, but very little of my enjoyment comes from how that story is actually presented here.
The characters suffer even more. Their designs feel noticeably flatter and far more childish than they do in the manhwa. One of the things I always appreciated about the original was how expressive and charismatic each character looked. Here, many of them feel strangely lifeless. Reynolds Leywin is probably my biggest disappointment; he almost looks emotionally dead compared to his manhwa counterpart. Jasmine Flamesworth also loses much of the strong presence and personality that made her memorable. Overall, nearly every character feels less alive than they should.
The soundtrack was another surprising letdown. While the opening and ending songs are decent (I'd probably rate them around a 7.5 out of 10) the background music feels disconnected from what's happening on screen in some momnets. Serious moments sometimes receive calm, almost cheerful music that completely weakens the intended emotional impact. Instead of enhancing dramatic scenes, the soundtrack frequently makes them feel oddly soft, almost as if the production wanted to present the story as a much younger children's fantasy rather than the darker adventure it gradually becomes.
My enjoyment of the series was honestly quite low. I rarely felt excited while watching each episode. The only reason I finished it was because I dislike dropping anime, especially adaptations of stories I already enjoy. In fact, if the anime left an impact on me, it was mostly a negative one. It constantly reminded me of how much better the original manhwa handles the exact same material.
One aspect that still deserves praise is the world itself. The power system remains fascinating, and I still enjoy how magic evolves alongside each character's growth. The different mana cores, beast wills, and progression system continue to be compelling ideas. However, I couldn't help but feel disappointed by one specific creative decision: the spell casting. Characters visibly move their mouths as if they're chanting magical incantations, yet no actual chants are spoken. This creates an awkward disconnect that makes many magical scenes feel strangely empty. Considering how important magic is to the series, this was a surprisingly poor choice.
Overall, this second season isn't terrible because of its story, it's disappointing because of its adaptation. Beneath all the production issues lies one of the most enjoyable fantasy stories currently being adapted. Sadly, the anime rarely reaches the emotional or visual heights that the manhwa consistently delivers. I'll continue watching because I know how good the original becomes, but if I judged this anime on its own merits, it would simply be an average fantasy series with flashes of potential that never quite materialize. For fans of the source material, this adaptation feels less like a celebration of the story and more like a missed opportunity.
