A short thoughts and feelings on what I consider to be the biggest crime in adapting source material.Continue on AniListIntroduction
By default I will assume that by reading this you at least know season 1 so have some idea of what this show is and for those that are looking for something new please think of this series as a TenSura LITE. There is much more emphasis on the slice-of-life elements rather than combat. If you have not read the manga, light/web novels then I believe you can enjoy this show as it is. For those aware of the source material, well, there was a murder here and we all know it.A Murder in 2 Parts
By the end of season 1 there were concerns of the pacing of the adaptation, but not hopeless because as we saw in the final episode Hiraku's son was born so while the original timeline was a little out of wack it was still recoverable, especially with the season 2 announcement... Oh how wrong we were. I will not go into details of what should have been because I believe the justice this series needs is for you to just go an enjoy the manga or light novel. The manga has a unique art style that makes it quite goofy sometimes but if you don't mind that the manga is the way to go otherwise the light novels are also very good.Season 2 completely butchered the material more than any adaptation I've ever seen, the worst part is that it was down to one poor director's choice to make it "More PG friendly". I want to make it clear, you can adapt children being born without the sex scenes, hell they did it in season 1 just fine (in my opinion, people are mad that it wasn't confirmed they were having hot steamy sex every night but it's a nothing moment). The children in this series are pivotal to the story and character developments. So yes, I can get behind removing the harem/echii slop but only if you keep the material together. Outside of removing one of the most important parts of the story, they also decided to just skip massive amounts of content in favour of moments that just don't have the same impact without the buildup that should have been there.
Conclusion
If you've seen season 1 without checking out the source material at all and remain clueless then you can enjoy this for what it is. A very mid isekai slice-of-life. Otherwise I would not waste your time and go read the manga which releases monthly or the light novels which is further ahead of the manga with the most recent volume being on June 30th 2026. I don't think I will ever recover from watching this disaster and for a series that I believe really holds up the isekai/slice-of-life genre, there cannot be any coming back from it. If by some miracle this gets a season 3 announcement they will be doing an anime only plot. This season has derailed the original story so much they would need to remake the whole thing. I'm mad and I will remain mad for the rest of my life.
