CORE THEMES

LOYALTY:
Clover is all about loyalty. Misaki Hayato presents himself with a straightforward personality, which makes him a character "easy" to understand, in a sense that we can see Hayato as a mirror of every other character arc. All the story go around loyalty, strenght, fights, however, we can sum them up as tools for the development of our characters throughout the plot: self-acceptance, learning to accept help, understanding another person's perspective, becoming more responsible for your decisions, are only ones of many lessons that we are showed through them.

RILVARY:
If there is something we can get full of as we are reading Clover, is the fights. We get fights between characters every 3 chapters. Many of them are just bloody material, as any adolescence delinquent manga should do, but sometimes we get THE fights. As I said before, between fights is where our characters grow, they wonder, they doubt, they hesitate. But, it's not violence itself what makes them change, is the confrontation againts their ideals, crushed against Hayato's strength.

ART

There is nothing particularly embracing about Tetsuhiko Hirakawa's art. Characters desing are just fine, but thats all, we get the same "enviroments" and background every fight, fights are not that clean in an artistic way. So I guess that we can sum it up as pretty average.

MENTAL NOTE: Hayato hairstyle is the coolest thing EVER.

CHARACTERS

Every character's development is dependable of Hayato's pressence, he makes them grow, he makes them realise, he makes them change. But this is not a sign of a bad character development, it's a sign of how animosity turns slowly into loyalty, first we have Akai, then we go to Sanada and Kikuchi, then we go to Gen (the best character besides Hayato imo), and we can go on and on until we get to Kira, the last link to the full group. I would never end if I started to go character by character, so I will go with the conclusion.

CONCLUSION

This is the point where I hesitate about this series excellence. It's not particularly a bad ending, I actually considered it decent. However, I expected something different. We experience through the first 400 chapters how Hayato turns around everyone's life, how he tries to gain everyone acceptance, but we never see how these things change him. So I kinda expected to see how he decides to experience his life from now on as everyone had already made their move, but none him.

But, I want to point out what's for me the real conclusion of what this story has to tell us: The Isolated Island Tournament

Why do we follow him?

Is what every character of this arc wonder when they realise the foes they are against. THIS moments is when Clover reaches its peak, as we finally realised as readers that loyalty is not about serving and being useful, it's about doing without wondering, because why would you wonder about giving help to your friends. Every member of Hayato's team have his reason to help him, however, all of them think they are in some kinda debt, as their lives gained meaning thanks to his actions, but they are not repaying anything, they are just acting as equals, as friends.
